The Deck
- Each card has a foreground and a background.
- The foreground has five characteristics: shape, size, color, fill, and number.
- The background has one characteristic: shade.
- Each characteristic has three expressions.
- There is one card for every possible combination of expressions.
Gameplay
- You begin with 40 cards dealt from the shuffled deck.
- Any three cards express a characteristic either differently, identically, or in a single-and-pair configuration.
- Three cards that express each characteristic, independent of the other characteristics, either differently or identically, form a set.
- The object of the game is to find sets.
History
Marsha J. Falco invented Set, a subset of this game. Set became the MENSA Select 1991 Award Winning Game.
6D Set evolved out of the desire of a certain J. R. Holmes to best an admired E. Stone at Set in late 2002.
He embarked on a rigorous training that involved the creation of a game more difficult than Set.
To Set's shape, color, fill, and number, he added the characteristic size, on a deck of his own making.
Soon thereafter, he printed his deck out on two additional colors of paper, adding the sixth characteristic.
The characteristics came to be known as dimensions. The game came to be known as 6D Set.
This electronic version was conceived in the rememberance of that game, the original deck of which has since been scattered.
